Subsystem Control
Facility
SCF is used to configure, control, and collect information about Tandem data
communications subsystems, such as SNAX Creator-2. This subsection provides
general information about SCF. For a complete description of SCF features that apply
to all subsystems, refer to the Subsystem Control Facility (SCF) Reference Manual.
SCF Commands Many SCF commands operate on the objects belonging to a subsystem. For example,
you can use the INFO command to display the current attribute values for a
SNAX Creator-2 SU object, and you can use the ALTER commands to change those
attribute values.
Several commands are available for displaying and changing SCF session parameters.
For example, the OUT command controls the files used for display output.
The HELP command can be used in several different ways. In its basic form, it
displays a list of the available SCF commands. You can also request additional specific
information, such as command syntax, for each command.
Commands that operate on SNAX Creator-2 subsystem objects are described in
Section 4, “SCF Commands for SNAX Creator-2 .” Commands such as OUT and
HELP are not subsystem-specific and are described in the Subsystem Control Facility
(SCF) Reference Manual.
Sensitive and Nonsensitive Commands
Some SCF commands cause changes in the operation of the subsystem to which they
are sent; for instance, they change the state or configuration of objects, start or stop
tracing, or reset the values of statistics counters. To protect the integrity of the
subsystem, the SNAX Creator-2 process allows only certain users to perform such
commands. Commands on which SNAX Creator-2 performs security checking and
