MC-REQUEST-TO-SEND (F6)
MC-REQUEST-TO-SEND (F6)
The MC-REQUEST-TO-SEND verb informs the partner TP that the local TP (APS)
wants to enter the Send state. The local TP does not enter the Send state until the
partner TP changes its own state to the Receive state by issuing a MC-RECEIVE-AND-
WAIT verb (or any other verb that causes the partner TP to enter the Receive state). The
MC-REQUEST-TO-SEND verb completes immediately; it does not wait for the partner
TP to change its state to the Receive state.
After issuing the MC-REQUEST-TO-SEND verb, the local TP should continue issuing
MC-RECEIVE-AND-WAIT verbs (or MC-RECEIVE-IMMEDIATE verbs) until the
Data Type field (WHAT-RECEIVED) in the reply returns SEND or CONFIRM-SEND,
which indicates that the partner TP has changed to the Receive state. After receiving
notification of the partner’s state change, the local TP can begin sending data to the
partner TP. Note that the partner TP can remain in the Send state indefinitely after
receiving the REQUEST-TO-SEND notification from the local TP.
