About This Manual
Who should Read This Manual
The SNAX/APC Planning and Configuration Manual is intended for system managers
who will install and configure the SNAX Advanced Program Communication
(SNAX/APC) subsystem.
Personnel using this manual should preferably have an intermediate knowledge of SNA
concepts (including LU 6.2 and Node Type 2.1), Tandem systems, and the Pathway
transaction processing environment.
How This Manual is Organized
This new configuration and management manual was created by combining two earlier
manuals. Part I contains the sections of the SNAX/APC Planning and Configuration
Manual and Part II contains Sections 1, 2, and 3 from the SCF Reference Manual for
SNAX/APC and they are renamed Sections 6, 7, and 8, respectively. In the appendices,
Appendix A is carried forward from the SNAX/APC Planning and Configuration
Manual and Appendices A, B, C, and D from the SCF Reference Manual for
SNAX/APC have been carried forward and renamed Appendix B, C, D, and E,
respectively. Because this new manual was created from earlier manuals, change bars
are used to indicate material that has changed from the earlier manuals. This
configuration and management manual has the following parts and sections:
Part I, SNAX/APC Planning and Configuration
contains sections 1 - 5 from the
SNAX/APC Planning and Configuration Manual.
Section 1, Introduction
, introduces some basic concepts of LU 6.2 such as definitions of
sessions and conversations. This section also describes the component parts of the
SNAX/APC product.
Section 2, Planning for SNAX/APC
, describes issues that must be decided before
SNAX/APC is installed and configured on your system.
Section 3, Using SNAX/APC
, describes the contents of the distribution tape, and
discusses the start up configuration parameters for SNAX/APC.
Section 4, Configuring Network Resources for SNAX/APC
, describes the SCF objects
used to configure network resources such as transaction programs, local and remote
LUs, and modes of communication.
Section 5, Trace Analysis Program
, describes the use of the trace analysis program to
examine information passed between the transaction program, SNAX/APC and the SNA
access method.
Part II, SCF Reference for SNAX/APC
contains sections 1 - 3 from the SCF Reference
Manual for SNAX/APC and they are renamed Sections 6, 7, and 8, respectively.
Section 6, Introduction to SCF for SNAX/APC
, provides an overview of the Subsystem
Control Facility (SCF) interface to SNAX/APC, a description of the general format of
SCF commands, and the environmental requirements for SNAX/APC.
