SNAX/APC Configuration and Management Manual—138787
1-5
LU 6.2 Verb Categories
Figure 1-4 shows an example of seven parallel sessions between LU1 and LU2. These
sessions are grouped into two different modes. Sessions within a mode share similar
transmission characteristics.
Parallel-session support implies a mechanism for regulating the number of sessions
between the partner LUs for each mode. This is known as change number of sessions
(CNOS), a service provided by a set of control operator verbs. See Part II, SCF
Reference for SNAX/APC for more details on CNOS verbs.
It is a simple matter for the network manager to configure an LU for parallel sessions.
The programmer who codes the transaction program does have to be concerned with
which session is carrying the conversation, although it is probable that the programmer
will select the mode (or use the default mode). See Section 2, Planning for SNAX/APC
,
of this manual for further details on modes.
LU 6.2 Verb Categories
There are two main categories of verbs (see Figure 1-5):
•
Conversational verbs, which provide the means for program-to-program
communication. For example, conversational verbs can start transaction programs or
send data from one program to another.
•
Control operator verbs, which are intended for use by control operator programs that
control the LU.
