backup CPU
attribute is sometimes called a modifier. (2) For the Tandem Service Management
(TSM) package, a data item associated with a resource. All attributes can be viewed and
some can be modified.
backup CPU. The central processing unit (CPU) number of the Tandem processor on which
the backup process will run. See backup process

backup process. In a Tandem NonStop system, a process that is identical to the primary
process and is created at the same time as the primary process. These two processes act
as a NonStop process pair. The backup process takes over if the primary process fails.

basic conversation. In the LU 6.2 architecture, a conversation in which the application
programs package the data in the form of GDS variables and format the required GDS
headers. A receiving program must interpret the GDS header information and extract
the application data from the GDS variables. Contrast with mapped conversation

basic conversation verbs. Verbs that an application program uses to implement basic
conversations.
BCPU. Backup central processing unit. bidder. In SNA, the LU-LU half-session defined
at session activation as having to request and receive permission from the other LU-LU
half-session to begin a bracket. Contrast with first speaker

BIN. Basic information units transmitted to SNAX/APC.
BIS. Bracket initiation stopped.
BIU. Basic information unit.
BOUT. Basic information units transmitted from SNAX/APC.
bracket. In SNA, one or more chains of request units and their responses that are exchanged
between the two LU-LU half-sessions and that represent a transaction between them.
change number of sessions (CNOS). A service provided by a set of control operator verbs
for regulating the number of sessions between a pair of logical units.
character translation or mapping. Allows the user to select a character translation table
other than the standard ASCII-to-EBCDIC table to be used for the character mapping of
textual data.
