BBI
BBI. See begin bracket indicator. (BBI).
begin bracket indicator. (BBI). A value in the request header that denotes the start of a
bracket.
BETB. See between brackets (BETB) state
.
between brackets (BETB) state. A state of an LU-LU session where a new bracket can be
opened.
bid. An attempt to gain control over a line in order to transmit data. Usually associated with
contention style of sharing a single line among several terminals. Nonuniform time-outs
at each terminal for reinstituting a bid if the line is busy give assurance that each
terminal can have access to the line.
binary synchronous transmission. In Systems Network Architecture (SNA), data
transmission in which synchronization of characters is controlled by timing signals
generated at the sending and receiving stations.
BIND command. The Systems Network Architecture (SNA) command that includes
information necessary to establish a session between two logical units (LUs).
BIU. Basic information unit.
block mode. A terminal operating mode in which data is read from the terminal and
displayed on the terminal a screen at a time. See also conversational mode
.
bracket. Grouping a sequence of normal flow request chains (one or more chains of request
units) and their responses into a single unit. The bracket protocols allow the two LUs
involved to contend for activating a bracket and provide a resolution.
BREAK key. The key that cancels the command that is currently being processed.
buffer. A storage area for a block of data.
CC. See condition code (CC)
.
CCE. See condition code equal (CCE)
.
CCG. See condition code greater than (CCG)
.
CCL. See condition code less than (CCL)
.
CDI. See change direction indicator (CDI)
.
change direction indicator (CDI). An indicator that signals the receiving unit that the
program has finished sending normal-flow requests and is prepared to receive requests.
