Glossary-5
file-system procedure
file-system procedure. A programmatic way of communicating with the file system.
FMD. See function management data
.
function key. (1) A key on the user’s terminal keyboard (usually labeled with its function)
that performs a specific function, as opposed to one that enters a character or a number.
(2) A key that can be assigned a value in order to perform a special function.
function management data. A request/response unit category used for user data exchanged
between logical units and for requests and responses exchanged between logical units,
physical units, and system services control points at the network services layer of
Systems Network Architecture.
half duplex (HDX) mode. The communications mode in which data can be transferred in
both directions, but only in one direction at a time, and in which the direction of data
flow alternates.
header. The control information and codes appended to the front of a block of user data for
control synchronization, routing, and sequencing of a transported data frame or packet.
hexadecimal (hex). A numerical value in base 16; digits go from 0 through 9 and A through
F. Tandem prefaces hexadecimal notation with %H.
high-level SNA 3270 interface. A SNAX/APN application interface that provides for the
establishment of sessions between logical units (LU-LU sessions). The high-level SNA
3270 interface supports the CRT and ITI protocols, which simplify communications
between an application process and an SNA 3270-type device.
host. A mainframe running MVS and VTAM.
ILOGMGR. See Tandem Logon Manager for IBM Systems (ILOGMGR)
.
inbound data stream. A 3270 data stream that is sent from a device to an application.
input/output (I/O) operation. The computer functions that involve receiving and
transmitting data.
interactive terminal interface. See ITI (interactive terminal interface)
.
interactive terminal interface protocol. See ITI protocol
.
ITI (interactive terminal interface). The application program interface selected when using
the ITI protocol. See also ITI protocol
.
ITI protocol. One of the high-level 3270 protocols that simplifies communications between
an application process and a 3270-type device. The ITI protocol supports a single
character stream; ITI translates the message and encloses it in the 3270 envelope.
Kanji character set. A two-byte Japanese character set; it is not supported in SNAX/APN.
