Katakana character set
Katakana character set. A character set of symbols used in one of the two common
Japanese phonetic alphabets, which is used primarily to write foreign words
phonetically. It is not supported in SNAX/APN.
LEN end node. See low-entry networking (LEN) end node
.
logical unit (LU). An entity representing a logical port that provides access to the services of
an SNA network, typically for communications between end users such as terminals,
printers, or application programs. Each LU supports a session between two end users
(LU-LU session). SNA categorizes LUs according to the type of end-user services that
the LU provides.
logon. A connection between a specific user and a computer.
log on. To establish communication with a computer by providing necessary authentication
information, such as a user name and password, to its operating system.
Logon Manager. See Tandem Logon Manager for IBM Systems (ILOGMGR)
and
SNAX/APN Logon Manager (TLOGMGR).
low-entry networking (LEN) end node. A type 2.1 end node that provides all SNA end-
user services, can attach directly to another type 2.1 nodes using peer protocols, and
derives network services implicitly from an adjacent network node when attached to an
APPN network without a session between its local control point (CP) and another CP; it
can also attach to a subarea network as a peripheral node.
LU. See logical unit (LU)
.
LU-LU session. In SNA, a session between two logical units in an SNA network. It provides
communication between two end users or between an end user and an LU services
component.
LU type. In SNA, the classification of an LU-LU session in terms of the specific subset of
SNA protocols and options supported by the LUs for that session.
national character support (NCS). An implementation within National Language Support
where one character set may be translated to another. These sets may be machine-
dependent (such as ASCII to EBCDIC) or language-dependent (such as Katakana to
Swedish).
NCS. See national character support (NCS)
.
network. A group of interconnected computer systems (or nodes) and devices, and the
hardware and software used to connect them.
network addressable unit (NAU). In Systems Network Architecture (SNA), a logical unit, a
physical unit, or a system services control point. It is the origin or the destination of
information transmitted in the transmission subsystem layer. Each network addressable
unit has a network address that represents it to the transmission subsystem layer.
