OPENSESSION
Application Prototyping and Simulation (APS) System
104707 Tandem Computers Incorporated 6–31
OS: OPEN-SESSION
Verb (F1)
The OPEN-SESSION request is used to establish an APS session. This request is often
the first executed verb in an APS work session. Note, however, that the HLS-
ALLOCATE and HLS-OPEN verbs provide enhanced functions for opening a session.
The execution of this verb depends on the PROFILE options in effect. If the OPEN-
MODE of the PROFILE is ACCEPT, verb execution prepares the SNAX/HLS server for
contact from the session partner. The verb does not complete until the session partner
has successfully contacted the ACCEPT mode APS session. If the OPEN-MODE is
ACQUIRE, verb execution requests the SNAX/HLS server to immediately attempt to
establish a session with the partner LU. Note that the two modes of open are
complementary; one partner must be in ACQUIRE mode, and the other in ACCEPT
mode. Furthermore, the accepting side must be preconditioned (must be reading)
before the acquiring side can establish the session. The open mode of a PROFILE
record can be found in the RDT listing, or by the HLSCOM STATUS command once a
session is active.
