Figure 5–8 shows a session example using the HLS–OPEN verb for the primary accept
case.

Note that the initial SNA transmission that starts the session originates in the SLU. As
indicated in the example above, this is either a character–coded LOGON message or
an INIT–SELF message. The former is the usual course of events from human–
operated devices such as terminals, and the latter from programmatic LUs.
The key fact is that the SSCP controlling the secondary LU converts both messages into
a common CINIT message. Thus, neither SNAX/HLS nor your application really
knows which method was used to start the session.
