Process, File, Device,
and Volume Names
D-series SNAX/HLS supports the following D-series-operating-system-naming
conventions:
Remote process names of up to six characters (including a $)
Remote file, device, and volume names of up to eight characters (including a $)
D-series SNAX/HLS does not support process file names with a sequence number.
Remote processes with six-character names (including the $) are accessible when both
systems are running D-series software.
Processes with six-character names that are running at low PINs may not be accessible
to C-series processes.
Unless you fully understand the possible effects or you have a strong reason for doing
so, do not use all six characters when naming processes.
File Name Syntax The D-series operating system does not provide a default subvolume name when a
volume name is specified. You must specify the subvolume name. The syntax for a
file name is:
[[\
node-name.
] [[$
volume-name.
]
subvolume-name.
]]
file-name
Process Name Syntax The syntax for D-series process names is:
[\
node
.] $
process name
