Configuring for Token-Ring Support

Required Remote PU Attributes
To provide backward compatibility with existing configurations, the replaced token-ring
attributes will be accepted by SCF, but you are encouraged to use the newer names for
new and altered configurations. Regardless of how the attribute was specified on an
SCF ADD or ALTER command, the SCF INFO command will always display the newer
names, and for SDLC and X.25 objects, the values displayed for these attributes are
N/A.
Required Remote PU Attributes
The following PU attributes are required for Token-Ring support:
LNRMTADDR
LNSSAP
The number of PUs that use the same LNSSAP value must be less than or equal
to the MAXLS value that was specified for the SAP. If the SAPINFO MAXLS value
is exceeded by adding or altering a PU, the ADD or ALTER command is rejected
with an error. For more information about LNSSAP, see Figure 9-13 on page 9-22
and Unique Addressing.
ASSOCIATESUBDEV
ASSOCIATESUBDEV must identify the name of an existing PAM device (for
example $PAM1). When the PU is started, PAM automatically adds a session
name, using the subdevice name you specified in the ASSOCIATESUBDEV
attribute. The subdevice name must be unique to the service manager. HP
recommends a name that allows you to track which PU and line might be affected
by any problems. For example, use a concatenation of the SNAX/APN line and
remote PU names, such as #APN1PU1, where $APN is the line name and PU1 is
the remote PU name.
For descriptions of these attributes, see Section 14, Attributes for SNAX/XF and
SNAX/APN.
Unique Addressing
An architected rule of SNA over LAN is that there may only be one connection between
any two SAPs because it is the SAP/MAC address that is used to identify the link
station (see Figure 7-9). Figure 9-13
on page 9-22 illustrates the effect this restriction
has on the relationship of PUs to SAP values.
