L3TIMEOUT
level 3 that the PU is inoperative. When -1 is specified or taken as the default, the PU
contact operation is retried indefinitely or until the PU is stopped, whichever occurs
first. (The INFO LINE command displays a -1 value of this parameter in its unsigned
form, 65535.)
The actions taken on a PU contact operation are different for primary and secondary
lines:
A primary line handler resends an SDLC SNRM command to a PU that fails to
respond or returns an SDLC DM response. The SNRM command is sent as a
result of a START PU command issued for a PU subordinate to a primary line.
The SNRM is retried at the interval specified for L3TIMEOUT. When the L3RETRY
limit is reached without receiving an SDLC UA response from the PU, level 3
declares the remote PU to be inoperative, and the PU’s status is changed from
STARTING to STOPPED.
For primary line handlers, the level-2 procedure resends the SNRM to the PU
RETRIES (LINE object attribute) times before notifying level 3 that the PU did not
respond positively. Therefore, observation of a line monitor attached to the primary
line during a PU’s failure to respond positively to SNRMs would reveal L3RETRY
number of RETRIES “bursts” of SNRMs separated by L3TIMEOUT pauses. The
SNRMs within the “bursts” are separated by TIMEOUT (LINE object attribute)
pauses.
A secondary line handler reissues a Read SIO to the hardware waiting for an
SDLC SNRM command from the host’s primary station. This action is repeated for
L3RETRY intervals of L3TIMEOUT.
L3TIMEOUT
L3TIMEOUT specifies the retransmit time-out value. This is the amount of time that the
level-3 procedure for a line-handler process waits between attempts to contact a either
a primary or secondary PU.
For PUs, the range of this attribute is from 0.01 to 5965:13:56.47 (a 32-bit value
representing hundredths of a second).
Default: 10 seconds
Value: 0.01 - 5965:13:56.47
