PUIDNUM (LINE Objects) - for SNAX/APN
PUIDNUM (LINE Objects) - for SNAX/APN
When applied to a LINE object, PUIDNUM specifies the identification number of the
local link station on the NonStop node. Together, the PUIDBLK and PUIDNUM
attributes are used in link station role negotiation and can be used in Exchange
Identification (XID) validation.
When the STATION attribute of the line is specified as NEGOTIABLE, the values
contained in PUIDBLK and PUIDNUM are sent in an XID Format 3 (XID3) frame to the
adjacent node for purposes of link station role negotiation.
In some cases, the adjacent node might use the HP NonStop identification block and
identification number for validation. In these cases, the PUIDNUM-PUIDBLK
combination must match the parameter or parameters in which the adjacent node
defines the identification block and identification number it expects to receive from the
link station on the NonStop system.
When link stations negotiate their roles, XID validation takes place before negotiation
occurs. SNAX/APN differs from SNAX/XF in that XID validation takes place on both
switched and nonswitched lines.
PUIDNUM (PU Objects) - for SNAX/XF
PUIDNUM specifies a binary value that, with PUIDBLK, uniquely identifies the PU in
the network. Together, the PUIDBLK and PUIDNUM attributes define the Exchange
Identification (XID) to be used for connections to the PU. These attributes must be
specified if XID verification is desired for PUs that exchange SDLC XID commands and
responses.
When PUIDNUM is specified in an ADD PU command, the PUIDBLK attribute must
also be specified. However, either attribute can be specified separately in an ALTER
PU command.
When the PU is subordinate to a primary line (except for a PU on an X.25 line), you
must specify a value for PUIDNUM that matches the serial number of the PU device
(for example, the serial number of an IBM 3274 control unit).
For additional information, see the description of the PUIDBLK attribute.
