The following information is displayed:
Next, use PTrace commands to display selected trace records. The command
used in the following example displays only level-4 Basic Information Units (BIUs)
from the trace file specified in the earlier TRACE command:
FROM $DATA.WORK.TRACE01;SELECT L4
Device Types and Subtypes
When you create a trace file, the type and subtype of the device being traced are
recorded in the file. PTrace displays this information in the first record in the trace file
(the trace-file header record). Table 15-1 lists the device type and subtype numbers
assigned to the traceable SNAX objects.
Guidelines for Effective Use of Tracing for
SNAX
For SNAX, the TRACE command allows you to monitor the activities of lines and the
service manager. You can initiate and terminate the gathering of trace information
while communications activity is taking place. You can select different types of activity
to trace using the SELECT keyword of the TRACE command, and you can select
specific physical units (PUs) and logical units (LUs) to trace using the PUSELECT and
LUSELECT keywords.
Because of the large amount of traceable information for a typical SNAX line or service
manager, SNAX trace files can become very large unless they are limited by one or
more of the SELECT, PUSELECT, and LUSELECT options. However, when using
SCF TRACE to create a complete trace file that might be sent to HP for analysis, it is
important to issue a fairly inclusive SCF TRACE command to ensure that all relevant
information is captured.
For service manager traces, use SELECT ALL (the default) for traces to be submitted
to HP. For line traces, use SELECT LINESTD unless you suspect a link-level problem;
in the latter case, use SELECT ALL (the default). Use LUSELECT or PUSELECT for
line traces only if you have isolated the problem to specific LUs or PUs.
