configured object
configured object. A Subsystem Control Facility (SCF) object that exists at the time an
SCF subsystem completes its initialization process, or an SCF object that is brought
into existence by a command issued through the subsystem management interface.
ConMgr. See concentrator manager process (ConMgr).
Connection Manager. See SNAX Connection Manager (SNAX/CM).
COUP. See Configuration Utility Program (COUP).
Creator. NonStop software that starts applications on the NonStop system. Contrast with
SNAX Creator-2.
Creator-2. See SNAX Creator-2.
CRT interface. An application programming interface that handles SNA flows for block
mode (typically screen-at-a-time) communication with 3270-type devices (display
terminals and printers). The CRT interface allows the calling process to communicate
with a device as if it were an ordinary file. Contrast with the interactive terminal
interface (ITI).
CRT protocol. A SNAX application programming interface protocol that supports block-
mode communications with display terminals and printers. The CRT protocol allows the
calling process to communicate with a device as if it were an ordinary file. Contrast
with ITI protocol, PRT protocol, and SNALU protocol.
data link control (DLC). A set of functions associated with Layer 2 of the Open Systems
Interconnection (OSI) reference model. These functions are responsible for reliable
communication between two physically connected nodes.
data terminal equipment (DTE). Equipment that constitutes the data source or data sink
and provides for the communication control function protocol; it includes any piece of
equipment at which a communication path begins or ends.
definite response mode. A mode in which the sender waits for a response before the next
request can be sent. See also exception response mode
.
definition statement. For IBM systems, a definition statement in VTAM describes an
element of the network; in a Network Control Program (NCP), it is a type of instruction
that defines a resource to the NCP.
dependent LU. Any LU that doesn’t support LU6.2 protocols. Dependent LUs require the
services of a System Services Control Point (SSCP) and they are controlled by an
SSCP_LU session. Type 6.2 LUs do not require the services of an SSCP and these
are called independent LUs.
device. Equipment used for input or output of information, such as a display terminal,
workstation, ATM, or printer.
