Dynamic System Configuration (DSC)
Dynamic System Configuration (DSC). A utility used in D-series and earlier RVUs to
make online changes to the configuration of devices and controllers. Its interactive
utility is called the Configuration Utility Program (COUP). In G-series and H-series
RVUs, DSC functions are performed by Subsystem Control Facility (SCF).
E4SA. See Ethernet 4 ServerNet Adapter (E4SA).
ELF. See Enhanced Logon Facility (ELF).
EMS. See Event Management Service (EMS).
end node. A node that is configured only as an endpoint in a network. Often used to mean
an APPN end node. See node type 2.1.
Enhanced Logon Facility (ELF). A feature of the SNAX/APN-EN (End Node) product that
enables LU-LU sessions between NonStop applications and remote 3270 devices in
an IBM network. ELF works in conjunction with the IBM Session Services Extension
(SSE) and it does not require the installation of HP NonStop software on an IBM
system. ELF is not supported in the SNAX/APN (LEN Node) product.
enhanced system services (ESS) table. The ESS table is the HP NonStop equivalent to
an IBM USS table. An ESS table sends messages to or interprets character strings
received from SNA peripheral nodes.
ESS table. See enhanced system services (ESS) table.
Ethernet. A local area network (LAN) that uses the carrier sense multiple access with
collision detection (CSMA/CD) access method on a bus topology and is the basis for
the IEEE 802.3 standard.
Ethernet 4 ServerNet Adapter (E4SA). A ServerNet adapter for Ethernet local area
networks (LANs) that contains four Ethernet ports supporting a communication speed
of 10 Mbps.
event. A significant change in some condition in the system or network. Events can be
operational errors, notifications of limits exceeded, requests for action needed, and
so on.
Event Management Service (EMS). A Distributed Systems Management (DSM) product
that provides event collection, event logging, and event distribution facilities. EMS
provides different event descriptions for interactive and programmatic interfaces, lets
an operator or an application select specific event-message data, and allows for
flexible distribution of event messages within a system or network.
event message. Text intended for a system operator that describes a change in some
condition in the system or network, whether minor or serious. The change of condition
is called an event. Events can be operational errors, notifications of limits exceeded,
requests for actions needed, and so on. See also operator message
.
