exception response mode
exception response mode. A mode in which a response from the device is sent only if an
error is detected. See also definite response mode.
Expand network. The NonStop Kernel operating system network that extends the concept
of fault-tolerant operation to networks of geographically distributed NonStop systems. If
the network is properly designed, communication paths are constantly available even if
there is a single line failure or component failure.
Expand networking software. NonStop software that can connect up to 255 NonStop
systems or servers into a single network.
Extended Logon Facility (XLF). A feature of SNAX/APN that enables LU-LU sessions
between applications on the NonStop system and remote 3270 devices in an IBM
network and between applications on the NonStop system that emulate 3270 devices
and applications in an IBM network. See also SNAX/APN Logon Manager
(TLOGMGR) and TASK object. TLOGMGR and ILOGMGR are the components of XLF.
Fast Ethernet ServerNet Adapter (FESA). A ServerNet adapter for Ethernet local area
networks (LANs) that contains one Ethernet port supporting a communication speeds
of 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps.
FESA. See Fast Ethernet ServerNet Adapter (FESA).
fault tolerance. The ability of a NonStop system to continue processing despite the failure
of any single software or hardware component within the system.
file name. A unique name for a file. File names for disk files normally have at least two parts
(the disk name and the file name); an example of a file name on a PC is B:MYFILE. In
the Guardian environment on NonStop systems, disk file names include a disk volume
name, a subvolume name, and a file identifier. An example of a file name on a
NonStop system is $DISK.SUBVOL.MYFILE. For files that are network accessible, the
node name precedes the volume name: \NODE.$DISK.SUBVOL.MYFILE.
file system. In the NonStop operating system environment, the application program
interface for communication between a process and a file. A file can be a disk file, a
device other than a disk, or another process.
G-series. A version of software. G00.00 is the first version to run on the NonStop S-series
servers.
gateway LU. An LU subordinate to a gateway line on a gateway system. SNAX/XF
transparently handles the passing of information between gateway LUs and the
processes and devices residing on a NonStop system.
gateway PU. A PU subordinate to a gateway line on a gateway system.
gateway system. A NonStop system that has a SNAX communications link to an SNA host.
