logical unit 6.2 (LU 6.2)
printers, or application programs. Each LU supports a session between two end users
(LU-LU session). SNA categorizes LUs according to the type of end-user services that
the LU provides.
logical unit 6.2 (LU 6.2). A type of logical unit that supports general communication
between programs in a distributed processing environment. LU 6.2 is characterized by
(1) a peer relationship between session partners, (2) efficient utilization of a session for
multiple transactions, (3) comprehensive end-to-end error processing, and (4) a
generic application program interface consisting of structured verbs that are mapped
into a product implementation. Implemented on NonStop systems by SNAX/APC.
low-entry networking (LEN) node. A type 2.1 end node that provides all SNA end-user
services and can attach directly to other type 2.1 nodes using peer protocols. When
attached to an APPN network without a session between its local control point (CP)
and another CP, it derives network services implicitly from an adjacent network node. A
LEN node can also attach to a subarea network as a peripheral node.
LU. See logical unit (LU).
LU 6.2. See logical unit 6.2 (LU 6.2).
LU accept. Session establishment initiated by a remote LU; for example, by the remote LU
sending a BIND, INIT-SELF, or character-coded logon request.
LU acquire. Session establishment initiated by an LU on a NonStop system; for example,
by the LU on the NonStop system sending a BIND or INIT-SELF request.
LU-LU session. In SNA, a session between two logical units in an SNA network. It provides
communication between two end users or between an end user and an LU services
component.
LU network services (LUNS). A component of the SNAX service manager that provides
NonStop users with a way of handling system requests with the functionality normally
found in SNA environments. LUNS allows devices attached to the NonStop system to
switch transparently between applications anywhere in the NonStop Expand network or
in a connected IBM host.
LU object . An SCF object that defines a logical unit (LU).
LU session type. In SNA, the classification of an LU-LU session in terms of the specific
subset of SNA protocols and options supported by the LUs for that session.
LU type. The classification of an LU in terms of the specific subset of SNA protocols and
options it supports for a given session, namely:
The mandatory and optional values allowed in the session activation request.
The use of data stream controls, function management headers (FMHs), request
unit parameters, and sense data values.
