Glossary-13
LUNS
Presentation services protocols such as those associated with FMH use.
LUNS. See LU network services (LUNS).
mainframe. A large-system processor. SNAX/XF, SNAX/APN, and SNAX/CDF all allow
NonStop systems to communicate with IBM mainframes running MVS and VTAM. See
also host system.
management application. In general, an application that monitors or controls another
entity. In the context of DSM, an application process that opens a management or
subsystem process to control a subsystem. This process can issue SPI commands to
subsystems and retrieve EMS event messages to assist in managing a computer
system or a network of systems. A management application is a requester with respect
to the subsystems to which it sends commands; the subsystems are servers with
respect to the management application.
medium access control (MAC). The sub-layer of DLC that supports medium-dependent
functions and uses the services of the physical layer to provide services to the LLC.
microcode. A code representing the instructions of an instruction set, that is, implemented
in a part of storage that is not program-addressable.
modifiers. Command parameters used to change configuration values; for example, those
used in the WAN subsystem to change SNAX service manager and line handler
characteristics.
multiple sessions. More than one concurrent session between a single logical unit (LU)
and several other LUs.
multipoint line. A telecommunications line that connects one node to multiple other nodes.
NAM. See Network Access Method (NAM).
NAU. Network addressable unit.
NCP. Network control program.
network. Two or more computer systems (nodes) connected so that they can exchange
information and share resources. See also Expand network, ServerNet system area
network (ServerNet SAN), wide area network (WAN), and local area network (LAN).
Network Access Method (NAM). A protocol used to allow Expand to connect across other
network protocols.
network management. Systems management for a network of computer systems.
network node. See APPN network node
.
network node server. An APPN network node that is used as a server for a LEN end node
or APPN end node, allowing these nodes to communicate with an APPN network.
