null object type
null object type. In the context of SCF, a term indicating that a command can be issued
without specifying an object type. For SNAX/XF, the null object type applies only to the
VERSION command.
OBEY file. A command file containing SCF commands. See command file.
object. A NonStop resource as identified to DSM that can be configured, controlled, and
inquired about by the operator. The objects identified for SNAX products include
subsystems, lines, PUs, LUs, and applications.
object state. As defined by SCF or SPI, one of the generally defined possible conditions of
an object with respect to the management of that object.
Open Systems Interconnection (OSI). A seven-layer network architecture model defined
by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The two lowest layers deal
with the physical connections and their protocols. The five upper layers deal with
network services, such as network file transfers and accessing remote databases.
operator message. A message, intended for an operator, that describes a significant event
on a NonStop system. An operator message is the displayed-text form of an Event
Management Service (EMS) event message. See also event message.
OSI. See Open Systems Interconnection (OSI).
packet-switching data network. A network that uses packet switching as a means of
transmitting data.
parallel sessions. More than one concurrent session between a pair of logical units.
passthrough. A function of SNAX/XF that allows a 3270 terminal attached to a NonStop
system to switch between HP and IBM applications. Passthrough lets a host
application program communicate with SNA devices connected to a NonStop system
as though the devices were connected to a cluster controller. Passthrough is enabled
by configuration and startup procedures; it is never directly invoked by application
software. Passthrough can also be used to perform service or management tasks that
are incidental to SNA applications on a NonStop system.
passthrough logical unit. A gateway LU that has been configured to provide the
passthrough function.
passthrough LU. A gateway LU that has been configured to provide the passthrough
function.
path information unit (PIU). A message unit consisting of a transmission header (TH)
alone, or of a TH followed by a basic information unit (BIU) or a BIU segment.
PATH object. An SCF object defining an Ethernet path to a CLIP.
