primary path
primary path. A path enabled as the preferred path. When a primary path is disabled, an
alternate path becomes the primary path. Contrast with alternate path.
process. A program that has been submitted to the operating system for execution, or a
program that is currently running in the computer.
process pair. Two processes: a primary process that is active, and a secondary, backup
process in another CPU that is ready to take over if the primary process fails.
PROFILE object. An SCF object defining the attributes for a set of similar DEVICE objects.
protocol. The set of rules governing the operation of communicating entities.
PRT interface. An interface that supports line-at-a-time communication with certain SNA
3270 type printers. The calling process sends text; SNA adds any necessary printer
control characters to the outgoing text.
PRT protocol. A SNAX application programming protocol that supports line-at-a-time
communication with SNA 3270 type printers. The calling process sends text; SNA adds
any necessary printer control characters to the outgoing text. Contrast with CRT
protocol, ITI protocol, and SNALU protocol.
PSDN. See packet-switching data network.
PTrace. A trace formatting utility. Can be used with SNAX/XF and SNAX/APN.
PU. See physical unit (PU).
PU object. An SCF object that defines a physical unit (PU).
PVC. Permanent virtual circuit. A persistent logical connection across an X.25 network—
comparable to a nonswitched line in circuit-switched networks.
QIO. A NonStop subsystem that provides buffers and control blocks for client processes,
including TCP/IP, SNAX/XF, SNAX/APN, and other processes. The clients and QIO
must be running on the same CPU.
QLLC. See qualified logical link control (QLLC)
.
qualified logical link control (QLLC). An X.25 protocol that allows the transfer of data link
control information between two adjoining SNA nodes that are connected through an
X.25 packet-switching network.
remote LU object. An SCF object that represents an LU in an adjacent node or elsewhere
in an APPN or subarea network.
remote passthrough. Passthrough between an SNA peripheral node attached to one
NonStop system and an SNA host attached to another NonStop system (in the same
Expand network).
