remote PU object
remote PU object. An SCF object that represents the PU in an adjacent node.
RH. A request or a response unit header.
RU. Request/response unit.
S-series. A version of hardware. The NonStop S-series servers run with G-series software.
SCF. See Subsystem Control Facility (SCF).
SCP. See Subsystem Control Point (SCP).
SDLC. Synchronous data link control.
secondary link station. In SNA, any link station on a link using a primary-secondary
protocol that is not the primary link station. A secondary link station can exchange data
only with the primary link station. No data traffic flows from one secondary link station
to another. Contrast with primary link station.
secondary logical unit (SLU). One of the two LUs involved in an LU-LU session. The SLU
functions under the control of the remote PLU. It accepts an incoming BIND request
from the PLU.
sense data. Data that indicates why an SNA command was rejected.
sensitive command. A command that can be issued only by a restricted set of users in the
Guardian environment, such as the owner of a subsystem process. For SNAX/XF, the
sensitive commands are those that can change the state or configuration of objects (for
example, ALTER or DELETE), start or stop tracing, or change the values of statistics
counters. See also nonsensitive command.
SERVER object. An SCF object defining a communications line interface processor (CLIP).
ServerNet system area network (ServerNet SAN). A wormhole-routed, full-duplex,
packet-switched, point-to-point network designed with special attention to reducing
latency and ensuring reliability. The ServerNet SAN provides the communication path
used for interprocessor messages and for communication between processors and I/O
devices.
ServerNet wide area network (SWAN) concentrator. A NonStop data communications
peripheral that provides connectivity to a NonStop S-series server. The SWAN
concentrator supports both synchronous and asynchronous data over RS-232,
RS-449, X.21, and V.35 electrical and physical interfaces, but X.21 is supported only
for leased lines; switched line connections are currently not supported.
service manager. The process within the SNAX subsystem that provides configuration and
management services to the line handlers. The SNAX service manager also receives
all SCF commands directed to SNAX, passing them on to a line handler when
necessary; that is, it serves as the manager process for SNAX. The same service
