SNAX/APN Dependent LU Support
(XLF and ELF)
Dependent LU Support enables non-LU6.2 communication between applications on an
NonStop system and dependent LU devices and applications in IBM networks.
SNAX/APN does not provide dependent LU support for SNA devices in HP NonStop
subarea networks because SNAX/XF provides this function.
A dependent LU requires the services of a System Services Control Point (SSCP) and
it is controlled by an SSCP_LU session. Type 6.2 LUs do not require the services of an
SSCP and these are called independent LUs.
Dependent LU support for NonStop PLU applications requesting LU-LU sessions with
devices in IBM networks does not require any special support or configuration.
Dependent LU support for SLU devices in IBM networks requesting LU-LU sessions
with NonStop PLU applications (logon) requires the use of a NonStop logon facility.
SNAX/APN (LEN Node) provides dependent LU support using only the extended logon
facility (XLF). SNAX/APN-EN End Node provides dependent LU support using both
XLF and the enhanced logon facility (ELF).
Applications on the NonStop system can use the CRT, ITI, or SNALU APIs with XLF
and ELF.
Using the Extended Logon Facility (XLF) enables the following communications:
Dependent SLU terminals and workstations in IBM networks can request LU-LU
sessions with (logon to) PLU applications on the NonStop system.
P applications that emulate dependent SLU devices can request LU-LU sessions
with (logon to) PLU applications in IBM networks.
XLF requires HP supplied software to be installed and
running in the IBM host.
The SNAX/XF End Node Enhanced Logon Facility (ELF) does not require HP supplied
software to be installed and running in the IBM host. Unlike XLF, using ELF only
enables dependent LU terminals or workstations in IBM networks to request LU-LU
sessions with (logon to) applications on a NonStop system. ELF does not enable
NonStop applications that emulate 3270 terminals to request LU-LU sessions with
(logon to) applications in IBM networks.
