Glossary-4
configuration
configuration. The definition or alteration of characteristics of an object. Configuration of
most SNAX products can be performed either interactively (using a command
interpreter such as SCF) or programmatically (using a management programming
interface such as SPI).
consumer distributor. An EMS distributor process that returns selected event messages to
management applications upon request. See also distributor
.
context token. A token in an SPI response message that indicates by its presence that the
response is continued in the following message. To obtain the next message, the
application program reissues the original command with one modification: the context
token is included in the new command message. When the subsystem sends a response
message that does not contain a context token, the series of response messages is
complete.
control and inquiry. Those aspects of object management that affect the state or
configuration of an object, such as inquiries about the object and commands pertaining
to the environment (for example, commands that set default values for the session). See
also event management
.
Creator. See SNAX Creator-2
.
Creator-2. See SNAX Creator-2
.
critical event. A DSM event considered crucial to the operation of the system or network or
that could have potentially serious consequences, such as the loss of a device. The event
message for a critical event contains the ZEMS-TKN-EMPHASIS token with a value of
ZSPI-VAL-TRUE. See also noncritical event
.
CRT interface. An application programming interface that handles SNA flows for block
mode (typically screen-at-a-time) communication with 3270-type devices (display
terminals and printers). The CRT interface allows the calling process to communicate
with a device as if it were an ordinary file. Contrast with the interactive terminal
interface (ITI).
data link control (DLC). In SNA, a part of the transmission subsystem layer. It initiates,
controls, checks, and terminates the data transfer over a data link between two nodes.
data list. A group of tokens used to separate response records within an SPI message for a
response or to enclose a single response record. A data list consists of a list token that
denotes a data list (different from the token that starts an error list), followed by a
response record and an endlist token. See also response record
.
data page. A 2048-byte section of memory used to store data. A page is swapped in and out
of active memory as a single unit.
data-portion token. A token in the body of an SPI message, rather than in the header. Data-
portion tokens are placed in the buffer using the SSPUT or SSPUTTKN procedure.
Some data-portion tokens can occur multiple times in the buffer, and most can be
