Kanji
Kanji. A graphic character set consisting of symbols used in Japanese ideographic alphabets.
Each character is represented by 2 bytes.
Kanji character set. Synonym for extended graphic character set (EGCS).
Katakana. A character set of symbols used in one of the two common Japanese phonetic
alphabets, which is used primarily to write foreign words phonetically.
line-handler process. The process within the SNAX/XF or SNAX/APN subsystem that
implements line-specific protocols. SCF and SPI commands directed to SNAX/APN or
SNX/APN are received by the specified service manager, which passes them on to a line
handler when necessary. A single service manager can manage multiple line handlers.
line.
LINE object type. An SCF or SPI object type that defines a line resource used by SNAX/XF
or SNAX/APN. The programmatic token for this object type is ZCOM-OBJ-LINE.
list token. A token indicating the beginning of a data or error list.
LLC. See logical link control (LLC)
.
local LU object. In SNAX/APN, an LU object that represents the LU residing on the local
Compaq node.
local passthrough. Any passthrough session that involves only one Compaq node.
local PU object. In SNAX/APN, a PU object that represents the type 2.1 PU residing on the
Compaq node. This PU is automatically added and need not be configured explicitly; its
name is #ZNT21.
logical link control (LLC). The IEEE 802-defined layer provides two types of DLC
operation. The first is a connectionless service, which allows data to be sent and
received without establishing a link. LLC also has a connection-oriented service with
sequenced information transfer, flow control, and error recovery.
logical unit (LU). An entity representing a logical port that provides access to the services of
an SNA network, typically for communications between end users such as terminals,
printers, or application programs. Each LU supports a session between two end users
(LU-LU session). SNA categorizes LUs according to the type of end-user services that
the LU provides.
LU. See logical unit (LU)
.
LU object type. An SCF or SPI object type that defines a logical unit (LU). The
programmatic token for this object type is ZCOM-OBJ-LU.
mainframe. A large-system processor. SNAX/XF, SNAX/APN, and SNAX/CDF all allow
Compaq NonStop™ systems to communicate with IBM mainframes running MVS and
VTAM. See also host system
.
