Using Request/Response Packets
These components, available for both the Guardian and OSS environments of the 
NonStop Kernel, help you create request packets, interpret response packets, and create 
and interpret trap packets.
Using Request/Response Packets 
Your managers can send requests and receive responses over several communication 
protocols.

Figure 1-6 illustrates how managers created using Manager Services can communicate 
with local and remote agents to submit requests and receive responses.
With IPC-encoded packets sent using the NonStop Kernel IPC protocol, managers can 
communicate with NonStop agents either locally or over Expand. With BER-encoded 
packets sent using a network protocol that a particular agent supports, managers can 
communicate with NonStop agents on local or remote nodes as well as with agents that 
reside on network devices manufactured by other vendors. Currently, NonStop agents 
are addressable using the TCP/IP network protocol.  When communicating with a 
NonStop agent, however, using the IPC protocol improves packet encoding and 
decoding performance.
