Using Request/Response Packets
These components, available for both the Guardian and OSS environments of the
NonStop Kernel, help you create request packets, interpret response packets, and create
and interpret trap packets.
Using Request/Response Packets
Your managers can send requests and receive responses over several communication
protocols.
Request/Response Communication Options
Figure 1-6 illustrates how managers created using Manager Services can communicate
with local and remote agents to submit requests and receive responses.
With IPC-encoded packets sent using the NonStop Kernel IPC protocol, managers can
communicate with NonStop agents either locally or over Expand. With BER-encoded
packets sent using a network protocol that a particular agent supports, managers can
communicate with NonStop agents on local or remote nodes as well as with agents that
reside on network devices manufactured by other vendors. Currently, NonStop agents
are addressable using the TCP/IP network protocol. When communicating with a
NonStop agent, however, using the IPC protocol improves packet encoding and
decoding performance.
