SPI Common Extensions Manual
SPI Common Extensions Manual—427508-001
xv
About This Manual
This manual describes an extended SPI subsystem management interface that
extends the basic SPI protocol described in the
SPI Programming Manual
 (formerly the
Distributed Systems Management (DSM) Programming Manual
):
Audience
This manual is written for those who maintain or develop programs that communicate
using the extended SPI and for anyone interested in the contents of SPI messages.
Extended SPI is used by many NonStop Kernel subsystems, including most NonStop
Kernel communications subsystems and by customer-developed applications that
manage these subsystems.
Section Description
Section 1, Introduction to SPI
Extensions
Reviews basic SPI and summarizes the common
extensions to SPI
Section 2, Extended SPI Concepts
Presents the concepts that extend SPI beyond the
basic interface described in the
SPI Programming
Manual
Section 3, Subsystem Control Point Describes the role of the Subsystem Control Point
(SCP) process
Section 4, ZCOM Data Definitions
Describes ZCOM tokens and other data items used
in extended SPI messages
Section 5, Commands and
Responses
Describes a common set of commands that
management applications use to control or retrieve
information about subsystem objects
Section 6, ZCOM Event Messages
Describes a common set of events defined by ZCOM
Appendix A, ZCOM Errors
Describes ZCOM-defined errors that can be reported
by subsystems that implement the extended interface
Appendix B, ZCMK Definitions
Describes data definitions, events, and errors used
by subsystems that have adopted the ZCMK
implementation of the extended SPI interface
Appendix C, ZCDG Definitions
Describes common events and related data
definitions defined by ZCDG and reported by
diagnostic processes that monitor communications
hardware
