2 Extended SPI Concepts
The extended SPI interface is based on these concepts:
Objects
An object is any logical or physical entity defined and controlled by a subsystem. The
subsystem itself can be viewed as an object. For example, a line to an X.25 network is
an object controlled by a running instance of the X25AM subsystem.
Most SPI messages are concerned with a specific object or set of objects:
Management applications send commands to subsystems to control objects.
Management applications send queries to subsystems to obtain information about
objects.
Subsystems generate events to signal changes in the status of objects.
All objects have these features, which combine to uniquely identify them:
A name
A type
A method of creation
A set of configuration attributes
Some objects have these additional features:
Connections to other objects (links)
A reported summary state
A status
A set of statistics
