Compaq NonStop™ SQL/MP Version Management Guide—429833-001
1-3
Versions of SQL/MP Products
date or time when a catalog or object was created, or the date or time when a
program was compiled.
•
Older version
A SQL/MP product with an older version is one that has an older release date and a
lower version number than a product to which it is being compared. The term older
version does not refer to the date or time when the software was installed, the date
or time when a catalog or object was created, or the date or time when a program
was compiled.
•
Future version
A future version of SQL/MP software is a version that is not yet released. When
released, it will have a higher version number than the current version of the
SQL/MP system software.
Versions of SQL/MP Products
The version management system described in this manual covers not only the SQL/MP
software, but also its associated components, catalogs, objects, programs, and host
language compilers. As new SQL/MP products are released, various types of version
numbers are used to distinguish new products from older products and to keep track of
the relationships that various kinds of SQL-related products, programs, and objects have
with each other.
The types of version numbers used to identify SQL/MP products, programs, and objects
are summarized in Table 1-1
and are described under the headings that follow.
