Software Versions and Releases
The version numbers and release numbers used in the NonStopSQL/MP version-
management system belong in one of these categories:
•
Each significant revision of a SQL/MP product is called a product version. Each has
a unique product version ID expressed in the form Vn, where V is a letter and n is a
two-digit or three-digit number. An example of a product version number is the
number D30.
•
A software release is a collection of mutually compatible product versions of all
Compaq software products. Each software release has a unique software release ID.
The products in a software release do not necessarily have matching software
version IDs or matching release IDs.
•
SQL/MP uses a unique series of release numbers that differ from the release
numbers assigned to other categories of Compaq software. Release numbers are
used primarily in marketing literature. Each release has a software release ID
enclosed in parentheses and preceded by the letter R. Examples of release numbers
are R(1) and R(2.1).
•
Each release has a corresponding version ID. An example of a version ID is the
number 315. In this manual, whenever a version of SQL/MP is mentioned, the
version number being referred to is the version ID.
History of Version Numbers and Release Numbers
Figure 2-1 illustrates the relationships between product version IDs, software release
IDs, and version numbers. As the diagram shows, Version 1 was introduced as SQL
release R(1) and is associated with product version C10.
Version 2 was released with SQL release R(2) and is also associated with release update
R(2.1). Version 2 release R(2) is associated with product versions C30, (up to C30.07).
Version 2 release R(2.1) is associated with C30.08 (and newer), D10, and D20.
Versions 300 and 310 were early-adopter releases based on product versions D22 and
D24 respectively and were made available only to a few customers. Version 300 was
associated with SQL release R(2.2), whereas version 310 was not associated with a SQL
release number.
Version 315 is associated with product version D30 and with SQL/MP release R(1.0).
