Interim Product Modifications (IPMs)
Interim Product Modifications (IPMs)
Frequently, changes in SQL-related products are introduced individually and separately
from software releases involving the entire product set. These asynchronous
introductions are called interim product modifications or IPMs. An IPM does not have a
distinguishable identifier visible to customers.
An IPM is usually introduced for one of two reasons: to correct defects or to make
minor changes in a product. New features with varying degrees of importance can be
introduced individually in IPMs. However, major overall changes in a product are never
introduced in an IPM, and the release of an IPM never changes a product number or a
version number.
If a significant number of individual new features are released in a single IPM, they can
subsequently result in the introduction of a new version of SQL/MP. To allow for this
possibility, version 300 and all subsequent versions of SQL/MP have three-digit version
numbers. (Versions 1 and 2 are not directly associated with any IPM. For backward
compatibility, version numbers 1 and 2 continue to have single-digit version numbers.)
The three-digit version numbers assigned to the SQL/MP software are not necessarily
consecutive. For example, if the current version of SQL/MP is version 315, the next
