Release Updates
SQL/MP version introduced to incorporate IPM modifications might be assigned
number 320 or any other number greater than 315.
Release Updates
To incorporate a minor change into an existing release of SQL/MP, Compaq often
updates an existing software release. In the same way that an IPM is a modification to an
existing product version, a release update is a modification to an existing release.
Release updates contain only minor changes to existing software; that is, they contain
modifications that require no changes in installation or operational procedures, require
no hardware or software configuration changes, and require no reorganization,
rebuilding, or conversion of customers’ applications or application data.
Some categories of Compaq software provide no special identifiers for release updates.
There is, however, a system for numbering updates to SQL/MP software.
When a SQL/MP release is updated, a decimal extension is added to the affected release
number. For example, SQL releases R(2.1) and R(2.2) are updates to SQL release R(2).
SQL/MP Software Components
All the components of the SQL/MP software installed on a node must have the same
version as the SQL/MP system software version running on that node. The SQL/MP
software components are as follows:
•
SQL compiler (SQLCOMP)
•
SQL compiler interface (SCI)
•
SQL preprocessor for COBOL85 (SQLCOBOL)
•
SQL executor (SQLEXE)
•
SQL catalog manager (SQLCAT)
•
SQL conversational interface (SQLCI and SQLCI2)
•
SQL utilities (SQLUTIL)
•
SQL file system (SQLFIL)
•
Disk process (DP2)
•
BACKUP and RESTORE utilities
•
FastSort program
When you install a new release of SQL/MP, each of these components is automatically
assigned a version number that corresponds to the version of your newly installed
SQL/MP software.
Relation of Software Version to Other Versions
All the software components in a particular SQL/MP system have the same version
number. In addition, a defined relationship exists between the version of SQL/MP
running on a particular node and the versions of the database, catalogs, objects, message
files, and SQL programs that the SQL software accesses. The basic rule is that no SQL
catalog, object, or program running on a particular node can be accessed if it has a
