Mixed Version Networks
When different versions of NonStop SQL/MP software are running on different nodes in
a network, the network is called a mixed version network. A network can become a
mixed version network when:
•
One or more nodes in the network migrate to a new version of the software, while
other nodes continue to operate with older version software.
•
One or more nodes in a network revert to an older version of the software, while
other nodes continue to run a newer version of the software.
Figure 6-1
illustrates the valid combinations of SQL catalog, object, and program
versions in a mixed version network that has nodes running version 1, version 2, and
version 315 software.
Mixed Version Compatibility
When different versions of SQL/MP software are installed on different nodes in a
network, successful operation depends on avoiding version incompatibilities that can
result in version errors.
Two possible causes of version errors in a network are fallback nodes and remote nodes
on which the versions of user catalogs are newer than the version of SQL/MP software
on the local node. Both types of problems are examined in more detail within this
section.
