Managing Database Applications
Managing an SQL/MX database includes supporting the operating requirements and
access requirements of application programs and maintaining valid application
programs. Providing this support and maintenance can include both
performance-related and operation tasks.
This section addresses these application management tasks:
Migrating Applications to Release 2.x on page 11-1
Moving Programs From Development to Production on page 11-3
Distributing Programs Across Nodes on page 11-8
Ensuring Proper Name Resolution on page 11-11
Maintaining Query Execution Plan Validity on page 11-14
Managing Modules on page 11-15
Backing Up and Restoring Programs on page 11-28
Migrating Applications to Release 2.x
In the context of database migration, SQL applications fall into these three categories:
SQL/MP applications, which are used by NonStop SQL/MP to access SQL/MP
data
Release 1.8 applications, which are used by Release 1.8 to access SQL/MP data
Release 2.1 or Release 2.0 applications, which are used by Release 2.x to access
SQL/MX and SQL/MP data
Application migration occurs in the context of database migration and involves two
scenarios:
Migrating SQL/MP applications to run successfully in a Release 2.x environment
Note. If you use NonStop SQL/MX Release 2.1 or Release 2.0, you cannot mix SQL/MP
statements and SQL/MX statements in the same application. However, you can use SQL/MX
statements to query both SQL/MP and SQL/MX database objects. For more information, see
the SQL/MX Programming Manual for C and COBOL and the SQL/MX Programming Manual
for Java.
Note. Release 2.x denotes any SQL/MX release including Release 2.0 and all subsequent
new-function or maintenance releases that begin with the number 2."
