3 Installing NonStop SQL/MX
Summary of Installation Tasks
Before you install NonStop SQL/MX Release 2.1 or Release 2.0, read Using the
InstallSqlmx Script on page 3-23 to familiarize yourself with the InstallSqlmx script
and the functions it performs during SQL/MX installation.
To install Release 2.1 or Release 2.0:
1. Perform the preinstallation tasks described in Preinstallation Tasks on page 3-1.
These include making sure that your system meets all hardware and software
requirements and that TMF is properly configured and running.
2. Install Release 2.1 or Release 2.0. For a description of the tasks involved, see
Installing NonStop SQL/MX on page 3-3.
3. As required, perform the other installation tasks described in Other Installation
Tasks on page 3-5. These include verifying that SUT files were installed in their
default locations, checking the SQL/MX files on your system, and verifying the
versions of installed executable files.
4. As required, perform the post-installation tasks described in Post-Installation Tasks
on page 3-18. These include starting MXCI, using Visual Query Planner, and
installing the SQL/MX online help.
5. As required, perform the corrective action tasks described in Corrective Action
Tasks on page 3-22.
Preinstallation Tasks
1. Confirm that your NonStop system meets all the hardware and software
requirements identified in Section 2, Preparing to Install NonStop SQL/MX
.
After ensuring system requirements and performing the remaining preinstallation
tasks, you can install the SQL/MX software and the SQL/MX sample database that
is distributed with it. For instructions on installing NonStop SQL/MX, see Installing
NonStop SQL/MX on page 3-3.
You are encouraged to install the SQL/MX sample database and use it to
familiarize yourself with NonStop SQL/MX and its statements, utilities, and MXCI
commands. The sample database is the source for many examples used in the
SQL/MX manuals. For instructions on installing the SQL/MX sample database, see
the SQL/MX Quick Start.
2. If you are migrating from Release 1.8 to Release 2.1 or Release 2.0, HP
recommends that you first install one of these DP2 fallback SPRs (or a
