Figure C-9 shows how the four electrical interfaces are enabled and disabled as
needed depending on which interface converter cable is connected to a WAN port. The
diagram is somewhat simplified; many of the drivers and receivers are actually shared
across the different electrical interfaces where possible. For example, RS-232 and V.35
have identical signals for the modem control lines, such as the request to send (RTS)
signal, so the same RTS driver is used for both RS-232 and V.35. X.21 adds no extra
drivers or receivers but uses only a subset of the RS-449 drivers and receivers.
