Communication Line Interface Processors (CLIPs)
Communication Line Interface Processors (CLIPs)
For enhanced reliability, each CLIP has access to both Ethernet ports. The following
figure shows the six CLIPs located on the front panel of the SWAN 2 concentrator.
Each CLIP has an associated WAN BIC on the back panel. Together they support two
WAN ports that can run different communications protocols or electrical interfaces
simultaneously.
SWAN 2 Firmware File
The SWAN 2 firmware file is the 510 disk file that resides on an
Integrity NonStop NS-series or NonStop S-series server disk file and is downloaded to
the SWAN 2 concentrator. The SWAN 2 firmware file contains these files:
SWAN Bootcode (T7954), which is written into the flash programmable memory
(PROM) on each CLIP on the SWAN 2 concentrator. This file contains:
°
SWAN 2 Bootcode (T7955), which contains the loader and which tests the
SWAN 2 concentrator hardware with the power-on self-test (POST).
°
SWAN Kernel (T7848), which is downloaded through the KERNELCODE
attribute of the Subsystem Control Facility (SCF) ADD ADAPTER command,
the OSM Service Connection, or the TSM Service Application (G-series RVUs
only).
SWAN Firmtask (T5814), which is downloaded into the SWAN 2 concentrators
dynamic random access memory (DRAM) along with the PROM image. This file
updates the flash image in the SWAN 2 concentrator’s flash PROM.
Updating SWAN 2 concentrator firmware is described in Appendix A, Using OSM to
Update SWAN 2 CLIP Firmware.
Note. The communications line interface processor (CLIP) is also known as a WAN logic
board (LB).
