Connect the Ethernet Cables
Connect the Ethernet Cables
The back panel of the SWAN 2 concentrator contains two RJ-45 10/100 Base-T
twisted-pair Ethernet ports, which are used to connect the SWAN 2 concentrator to the
NonStop BladeSystem, NonStop NS-series (G4SAs only) system, or NonStop S-series
system.
Ethernet connections to the system can be made:
•
Directly to Ethernet adapters (E4SAs, FESAs, GESAs, or G4SAs) using a
customer-supplied crossover cable (E4SAS, FESAS, and GESAs are not
supported on BladeSystems.)
•
Indirectly through customer-supplied, industry-standard Ethernet switches, hubs, or
routers (see Connect the Ethernet Cables to a Switch, Ethernet Hub, or Router on
page 2-17)
•
For maximum fault-tolerance, HP recommends that you connect a SWAN 2
concentrator directly to an Ethernet adapter rather than through an Ethernet hub. If
you use an Ethernet hub, you must carefully monitor the state of the hub.
Note. If you connect a SWAN 2 concentrator directly to an Ethernet adapter, you derive
the benefit of the 30-second AC power backup provided by the SWAN 2 concentrator
battery. If you connect to an Ethernet hub, you derive this benefit only if the hub is
power-protected through an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) or battery. In the event of
AC power loss all communications with a SWAN 2 concentrator is lost if the hubs are not
power-protected.
