Connect the Ethernet Cables
•
When using an unmanaged switch (customer-supplied), HP recommends using the
HP ProCurve 408 switch (J4097B). HP has functionally tested the SWAN 2
concentrator with the HP ProCurve 408 switch.
•
When using an Ethernet hub (customer-supplied), make sure that you are using
industry-standard Ethernet hubs. HP has functionally tested the SWAN 2
concentrator with the HP ProCurve 10/100 Hub 12 (J3294A):
The following figure shows an Ethernet hub that has eight ports; the port labeled
“8” can be used either as a regular port or as an uplink or cascade port. Depending
on the manufacturer, that port might have a switch that provides the crossover
capability for uplinking or cascading hubs together (see Figure 2-2 on page 2-20).
If not, you might need to use a crossover cable.
•
When using a router, see the WAN Subsystem Configuration and Management
Manual for more information. Using a router requires additional configuration.
Note. To derive the benefit of the 30-second AC power backup provided by the SWAN 2
concentrator battery, you must use Ethernet hubs, routers, or switches that are
power-protected through an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) or batteries.
