Finding the MAC Address of the CLIP
Finding the MAC Address of the CLIP
You can execute the SCF STATUS PATH command to find the media access control
(MAC) address of both the paths of a CLIP.
Considerations
•
The Ethernet MAC Address is obtained on a BOOTP request and kept in local
storage.
•
In SPRs T7909AAE and previous RVUs, the MAC Address was erroneously
updated to question marks (???), even on a working CLIP. This problem was fixed
in the WANBoot SPR T7909AAG. If the WANBoot SPR being used is T7909AAE or
below, ignore the MAC Address being shown as question marks (???).
•
In T7909AAG and later RVUs, question marks (???) in the media type/media
address appear, if the BOOTP request on that path has not been exchanged.
However, in G06.06 SPRs and previous SWAN SPRs, the MAC Address was
stored in volatile memory. Thus, if the WANMgr process has been stopped and
started, the MAC Address obtained would be lost and would require a BOOTP
request from the CLIP to get the MAC Address.
•
In G06.07 and later RVUs, the MAC Address obtained is stored in non-volatile
memory and is always consistent. Question marks (???) or 0s appear only if the
BOOTP request on that path has never been exchanged, after configuration. Both
the OSM Service Connection and TSM Service Application show the MAC Address
as an attribute of the SWAN Path object, which is a subcomponent of the SWAN
CLIP.
