Fast Ethernet ServerNet Adapter (FESA)
Fast Ethernet ServerNet Adapter (FESA). The FESA is a CRU that supports one Ethernet
10Base-T or 100Base-TX connection and communicates with multiple processors
through its dual ServerNet interfaces to the ServerNet fabrics. Two FESAs can be
installed in a processor enclosure and up to four in a single I/O enclosure.
fault tolerance. The ability of a computer system to continue operating during and after a
fault (the failure of a system component).
FCSA. See Fibre-Channel ServerNet Adapter (FCSA).
Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The United States’ regulatory agency for
radiated and conducted electronic emissions.
FESA. See Fast Ethernet ServerNet Adapter (FESA).
Fibre-Channel ServerNet Adapter (FCSA). A ServerNet adapter that transmits data
between a NonStop S-series server and some fibre channel storage devices. This
ServerNet adapter is installed in an IOAM Enclosure.
field replaceable unit (FRU). A unit that can be replaced in the field only by qualified
personnel trained by HP and cannot be replaced by customers. A unit is classified as a
FRU because of safety hazards such as weight, size, sharp edges, or electrical
potential; contractual agreements with suppliers; or national or international standards.
file-system procedure. A programmatic method of communicating with the NonStop Kernel
file system.
FIRMUP. A diagnostic task used to update the copy of the Portable Silicon Operating
System (pSOS) system product embedded kernel that is kept in the SWAN or SWAN 2
concentrator communications line interface processor (CLIP).
firmware. Code in memory that is necessary for power-up initialization and communication
with a host or device. The software for components of the ServerNet architecture (for
example, an adapter) is called firmware. Some firmware for ServerNet components is
downloaded when the system or component is loaded. See also FIRMUP.
flash memory. A type of memory that contains essential firmware and nonessential
firmware.
flash PROM. A type of programmable read-only memory (PROM) that is electrically
reprogrammable.
FRU information record (FIR). A collection of information that every field-replaceable unit
(FRU) carries with it, such as part number, revision, track-ID, and media access control
(MAC) address. The SWAN concentrator contains FIR information. The SWAN 2
concentrator contains FIR information in its WAN LB, LAN LB, power supply, and
chassis/midplane components
