Installing and Using the SWAN Tools
The SWAN tools product (T0465G06) is a collection of tools available for debugging
the SWAN and SWAN 2 concentrators. The tools support:
Analysis of CLIP dumps
Checking line health
Initiation of on-line CLIP dumps
The tools provide diagnostic support but are not essential for use of the SWAN and
SWAN 2 concentrators or WAN subsystem.
The SWAN tools collection provides tools or programs, which by default, are placed in
the ISV ZWANTOOL. The SWAN tools are:
QUEST on page 5-2
QUEST2 on page 5-10
WANDUMP on page 5-28
WANLNCK on page 5-29
WANFBT on page 5-37
WANTCB on page 5-38
To install these tools, copy their program files to the ISV ZWANTOOL. No additional
configuration is necessary.
CLIP Dump
A SWAN or SWAN 2 CLIP dump is a dump of the entire memory of the SWAN or
SWAN 2 CLIP along with additional data structures maintained in SWAN/SWAN 2. A
CLIP dump is initiated by the SWAN or SWAN 2 CLIP software when any task causes
an exception in the SWAN/SWAN 2 CLIP. Possible exceptions could be a bus or
address error, SWT timeout, or a pSOS/PNA error, where the software cannot proceed
further.
A CLIP dump can also be initiated by the Online Dump utility WANDUMP. Generally, a
WANDUMP dump is initiated only for some specific debugging purposes and is not
commonly used. The size of a CLIP dump is approximately 4.7MB for SWAN. The
dump size for SWAN 2 is variable because of compression.
