FRU information record (FIR)
FRU information record (FIR). A collection of information that every FRU carries with it
such as part number, revision, track-ID, and MAC address. The SWAN concentrator is
a customer replaceable unit (CRU), but it does contain FIR information. See also field
replaceable unit (FRU).
full-duplex. Transmission permitted in both directions at the same time over a data
communications line. See also half-duplex.
half-duplex. Transmission permitted in one direction at a time over a data communications
line. See also full-duplex.
hardware. All the physical components of a computer system or a peripheral device.
HP Open System Management (OSM) Interface. Replacement for TSM as the system
management tool of choice for HP NonStop S-series servers. OSM provides the same
functionality as TSM while overcoming limitations of TSM. OSM is required for support
of new functionality released in G06.21 and later.
IOAM: See I/O Adapter Module (IOAM).
IOAM Enclosure: See I/O Adapter Module Enclosure (IOAM Enclosure)..
I/O Adapter Module (IOAM). A collection of modular components that provides I/O
connectivity and can include ServerNet switch boards, Gigabit Ethernet 4-port
ServerNet adapters (G4SAs), Fibre Channel ServerNet adapters (FCSAs), fans, and
power supplies. In the IOAM, each module is a logical entity that represents a single
service domain.
I/O Adapter Module Enclosure (IOAM Enclosure). The sheet-metal carrier that is installed
in a standard 19-inch rack and contains the IOAM components.
interface converter cable. Each of the six WAN ports on the SWAN concentrator has an
identical 50-pin connector that can support any of the supported electrical interfaces
(RS-232, RS-449, X.21, or V.35). An adapter cable adapts, or changes, this āgenericā
interface to one of the desired electrical interface. There are four different adapter
cables, each one supporting one of the electrical interfaces. One end of each adapter
cable has a 50-pin connector that connects to any of the six 50-pin WAN ports on the
front of the SWAN concentrator. At the other end of the adapter cable is a connector
that conforms in size and pinout to one of the supported interfaces.
KB or KByte. Kilobyte: 1024 bytes of data.
Kbps. Kilobits per second. A data rate equal to 1000 bits per second (bps). See also bits
per second (bps) and Megabits per second (Mbps).
local area network (LAN). A LAN provides access to devices distributed within a local
campus. LAN clocking rates are typically 10 Megabits per second (Mbps) or greater. A
LAN is a network such as Ethernet, token ring, or FDDI.
