SERVER object
SERVER object. A configurable object within the WAN subsystem SCF interface that
represents one CLIP on a SWAN concentrator (ADAPTER object). See also
communications line interface processor (CLIP).
Subsystem Control Facility (SCF). A subsystem used to provide a common, interactive
management interface for configuring, controlling, and collecting information from
Tandem data communications subsystems. SCF and the Subsystem Control Point
(SCP) are processes that implement Distributed Systems Management (DSM)
interfaces for NonStop Kernel systems. SCF provides a text interface. SCP provides a
tokenized interface. Together, SCF and SCP provide the management interface for the
WAN subsystem.
synchronous. A mode of transmission in which characters are accumulated in a buffer at
the sending terminal and sent as a block of data. Synchronous transmission normally
uses external clocking provided by a synchronous modem. The clocking scheme
assumes that once transmission starts, characters will arrive in a block at a
predetermined speed.
TSM. See Compaq TSM.
V.35. CCITT standard for specifying the electrical characteristics using a high-speed
transmission rate of 48 to 50 Kilobits per second (Kbps) between a computer and a
public telephone system that employs analog signaling.
WAN. See wide area network (WAN).
WAN port. Each SWAN concentrator has six WAN ports, which provide a data channel that
connects to other devices or computers. See also interface converter cable.
WAN subsystem SCF interface. The SCF commands supported specifically for the WAN
subsystem. WAN subsystem SCF commands are directed to the WAN manager
process.
wide area network (WAN). A communications system that connects geographically
dispersed sites or local area networks (LANs). WANs are primarily used to
interconnect an organization’s voice, video, data, and computer business systems
including LANs. A WAN links these communications systems outside the organization’s
properties and crosses public areas that are regulated by local, national, or
international authorities.
X.21. CCITT standard for connecting terminals and modems for synchronous connection on
public data networks (PDNs).
