Protocols and Line Speeds
Protocols and Line Speeds
A SWAN concentrator can support various line speeds based on the protocol used.
The maximum line speeds for the protocols supported by the SWAN concentrator are
as follows:
Asynchronous
For asynchronous communications, the maximum line speed is 19.2 kb/s
Byte-synchronous
For Envoy byte-synchronous communications software, the maximum line speed is
9,600 kb/s (using both lines on the CLIP) or 19.2 kb/s (using one line on the CLIP).
For CP6100 communications software, the maximum line speed is 19.2 kb/s per line.
Bit-synchronous
For EnvoyACP/XF software, the maximum line speed is 256 kb/s for all interfaces,
except RS-232, which has a maximum line speed of 19.2 kb/s.
For X.25AM software, the maximum line speed is 256 kb/s for all interfaces, except
RS-232, which has a maximum line speed of 19.2 kb/s.
For SNAX/XF and SNAX/APN software when using a single line on a CLIP, the
maximum line speed is 256 kb/s for all interfaces, except RS-232, which has a
maximum line speed of 19.2 kb/s. When using both lines on a CLIP, the combined
speed of both lines cannot exceed 256 kb/s.
For Expand software, the maximum line speed is 64 kb/s for all interfaces, except
RS-232, which has a maximum line speed of 19.2 kb/s. The Expand software does not
work with the X.21 interface.
Connecting Multiple SWAN concentrators
To connect multiple SWAN concentrators, connect them to an Ethernet controller
through any Ethernet switch.
A router can be used to connect SWAN concentrators. However, the use of a router
requires additional configuration.
Note. When using Envoy for byte-synchronous communications, the maximum line speed
speed was much faster with older NonStop controllers than is possible when using SWAN
concentrators. Currently, there is not a way to overcome this limitation.
