Using TSM to Update SWAN CLIP
Firmware
The SWAN kernel firmware file resides on a NonStop system. During startup, this file is
downloaded to each SWAN concentrator CLIP to provide link-level protocol and a host
interface. A SWAN concentrator contains either three or six CLIPs (three CLIPs in a
SWAN, six CLIPS in a SWAN 2) and each CLIP contains one or two WAN lines.
Typically, CLIP firmware is updated when you:
Install a NonStop server or perform a system load update
Install or replace a CLIP
Upgrade to a newer version of firmware on the NonStop server host
In the TSM Service Application (G06.21 and earlier RVUs) you update the firmware by
either:
Using the SWAN Fast Firmware Update Guided Procedure (available in G06.13
and later RVUs): This method is preferred because you can update multiple CLIPs
(CLIP collections) simultaneously.
Using the Firmware Update Dialog Box on page 4-5. This method updates an
individual CLIP (or is used if the minimum requirements for using the SWAN Fast
Firmware Update guided procedure are not met).
Using the SWAN Fast Firmware Update Guided
Procedure
Use this procedure if your site has numerous SWANs that need updating and you are
using TSM. For online help, open the Help menu or click Help in any of the
procedure’s dialog boxes. Before beginning, see Support Note S04029.
1. Log on to the TSM Service Application.
2. Do one of the following:
Select Display >SWAN Fast Firmware Update
-or-
Use the Actions dialog box:
a. Right-click the SWAN collection in the tree pane and select Actions from
the shortcut menu.
Note. To update SWAN CLIP firmware using the OSM Service Connection, refer to Using
OSM to Update SWAN CLIP Firmware on page 3-1.
