1 SYSGENR Overview
This section provides an overview of SYSGENR, the system generation program for
HP NonStop S-series servers, and the components needed by SYSGENR to create a
new set of operating system files.
This section includes the following topics:
Overview
SYSGENR is the system generation program for G-series RVUs. DSM/SCM runs
SYSGENR automatically to install the NonStop Kernel operating system.
The purpose of this manual is to describe in detail how SYSGENR works.
Relationship of SYSGENR to DSM/SCM
To install a new software RVU, you must run DSM/SCM. DSM/SCM, a graphical user
interface (GUI)-based program, guides you through the complete software installation
process. Refer to the DSM/SCM User’s Guide and DSM/SCM online help for complete
information on how to run DSM/SCM.
DSM/SCM automatically runs SYSGENR as needed.
Offline Configuration With SYSGENR
SYSGENR configures the system variables listed in the ALLPROCESSORS paragraph
in the CONFTEXT configuration file (see ALLPROCESSORS Paragraph on page 2-2).
These entities are built by SYSGENR and stored in the OSIMAGE operating system
image file.

Note. HP recommends that you do not run SYSGENR outside of DSM/SCM. The
CONFTEXT configuration file contains minimal content, and it should be checked manually
before you run DSM/SCM. If you do run SYSGENR outside of DSM/SCM, you must create
your own CONFAUX file, something that DSM/SCM builds automatically.
