Disaster Recovery
Disaster Recovery
To ensure proper recovery from a disaster, you must always have a copy of the current
system image available at a safe location. A safe location is one which is both:
•
Distant from the computer facility where the current system image exists
•
A controlled environment having a cool temperature
In addition, copies of important configuration files (OSIMAGE and CONFTEXT, for
example) must be kept even more accessible on tape and in hard-copy listing, or on
another system. This reserve copy of the system image must be on disk (a SID) or
tape (a SIT) or both, depending on the disaster recovery guidelines for your company.
You should also have a recent backup of the system configuration database, as this
configuration information is not stored on the SIT. If you have to perform a SIT load
without also restoring the system configuration database, you will have to reconfigure
all system processes and peripherals that are created using SCF.
