Types of Addresses

IPv4-mapped IPv6 address
Used to represent an IPv4 address and to identify nodes that do not support IPv6
(IPv4-only nodes). It is not used in an IPv6 packet. The format of this address is:

Local-use IPv6 unicast addresses
A local-use IPv6 unicast address can be either of these:
•
Link-local
Used for addressing on a single link when performing address
autoconfiguration, neighbor discovery, or when no routers are present. This
address is assumed to be unique only on the link to which the interface is
connected. The format of this address is shown in Figure A-6.

Note. Do not use IPv4-compatible IPv6 addresses in the Domain Name System (DNS) or the
IPNODES file. The Sockets Library will handle the conversion of these addresses for an
application.
